Judging by its cover, Cornelia Guest’s new cookbook doesn’t appear to be a vegan book. And if you ask Ms. Guest, the actress, heiress, and caterer to the stars, she won’t readily admit it either.
“I like to say ‘cruelty-free,’ ” she said at a party on Wednesday celebrating the release of her book, “Simple Pleasures: Healthy Seasonal Cooking and Easy Entertaining.” “I think it’s a nicer word.” People often cringe at the word “vegan,” she said, scrunching up her face.
The party brought the book to life, serving cruelty-free refreshments featured in the book. There were black-bean burger sliders, chickpea patties with arugula, polenta cakes with mushrooms and, of course, Ms. Guest’s signature vegan chocolate-chip cookies.
