What makes cancer cells thrive and what inhibits them?  More than 95% of cancers are directly caused by consuming inflammatory foods and beverages.  Less than 5% of cancers are caused by environmental toxins or heredity.

1 in 2 American men and 1 in 3 American women gets cancer, so the sooner you can change your habits the better!

Here are the changes that make a huge difference when it comes to cancer prevention and fighting cancer if you already have it (these tips also fight heart disease and diabetes):

• Don’t smoke.  Lung cancer is still the #1 cancer in the U.S.

• Eliminate animal fat and animal protein from your diet. Of cancers affecting both men and women, colorectal cancer (cancer of the colon and rectum) is the second leading cancer killer after lung cancer. Meat, poultry, fish/seafood, eggs and dairy cause colon and rectal cancer. Substitute with starches such as beans, lentils, potatoes, sweet potatoes, brown rice, brown rice pasta, quinoa, mushrooms, etc.

• Eliminate consumption of refined sugars. Sugar is what cancer cells feed on. Substitute with sweet whole foods such as fruits, sweet potatoes, carrots, raisins, dates, etc.  When sugar hasn’t been separated from the whole food it comes from, it doesn’t feed cancer cells.

• Eliminate intake of all vegetable oils (including olive oil), which are high in inflammatory omega-6s. All plant foods can be cooked without oil, butter and other fats and actually taste much better without them. Oils and fats are the most concentrated form of calories with 120 calories in just one tablespoon. They are also completely empty calories with no nutritional value.  Substitute salad dressings with citrus juices and zest.  Make homemade baked potato “chips” instead of buying bags of chips full of GMOs, oil and salt.

• Consume anti-cancer foods: organic dark leafy greens, cruciferous veggies, garlic, onions, mushrooms, herbs, spices, starchy vegetables, fruits, beans, lentils, peas.

• Replace drinking coffee and soda with green tea and water with a squeeze of lime or lemon.  It may be difficult in the beginning but after a few weeks your palate changes and coffee will taste acidic and rancid.  Diet soda will taste like chemicals.  Adding lime or lemon to water alkalizes it, adding extra anti-cancer benefits.

• Limit your alcohol consumption to an occasional drink on special occasions.  Substitute with high-energy, detoxifying green juices.  From simple cucumber juice to juices made with many green veggies such as celery, spinach, parsley, kale, etc. A good juicer is a little pricey, but your health is priceless and you’ll be saving money in the long run by eliminating doctors bills and medications.

• Avoid industrial chemicals, such as parabens and phthalates in personal-care products; household pesticides and insecticides; aluminum found in deodorants and antiperspirants; and inorganic phosphate additives found in many sodas, processed meats and commercial baked goods.  When you change to a clean, anti-bacterial, plant-based diet you’ll find you won’t need a lot of these products any more. There are natural solutions for everything, the problem is that companies can’t make money on them so they bottle and package toxic chemicals to sell you instead.

• Take a 30 minute walk daily. Or take longer walks (1-2 hours) a couple times per week.  Walking helps keep your bones strong, increases muscle tone, and helps circulation.  Add some weight training for added benefits.  Get hooked on exercise instead of food.

• Try to get 20 minutes of sunshine daily for Vitamin D. Do not use sunscreens — they contain cancer causing ingredients. If you spend more time in the sun, cover up with a hat and long sleeves instead of using sunscreens.

• Manage stress and negative emotions – Going on a plant-based diet, walking and getting some sunshine, will eliminate stress from your body.  It will also help you sleep better and headaches and migraines should disappear since they are also caused by inflammation.

• Enlist friends – Find a small circle of friends with whom you can share your new positive lifestyle and experiences.
