Why go plant-based?

Plant foods (vegetables, fruits, beans/legumes, whole grains, spices) are anti-inflammatory and health promoting. All chronic diseases are caused by an acidic, inflammatory diet including animal foods and processed foods which lead to degenerative conditions including heart disease, diabetes, cancers, autoimmune disorders, arthritis, allergies, skin conditions, osteoporosis,  and too many more to mention here.

Kaiser Permanente, the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR), and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, among others now recommend a plant-based diet to avoid and reverse diseases like cancer, heart disease and diabetes.

Switching to an anti-inflammatory, plant-based diet is what your body needs for healing, optimal nutrition and energy.  A vegan diet is not about deprivation, it is about abundance.  You will be able to eat more, weigh less, and have so much energy and optimism!

I can help you on this empowering path. You’ll never feel healthier, happier and more vibrant.

About Sonny Gray:

I began my transformation to a vegan, plant-based diet in January 2011. I did this in support of my wife who was making the change due to health problems.

At the time I was about 25-30 pounds overweight and was taking medications for high cholesterol, high blood pressure as well as NSAIDs for aches and pains. Quickly my weight started to drop off, as well as my cholesterol and blood pressure numbers and I didn’t need the medications anymore.  Presently I weigh the same as I did when I was discharged from the Navy in 1979.  My wife also resolved her health issues on the plant-based diet.

We were so blown away by our results that by the end of 2011 we established, an online magazine to help others realize the benefits that a plant-based lifestyle can have on their lives.

I took up mountain biking in 2012 and since then I have logged thousands of miles and also won a few races.  I ride four to five times a week plus I do a simple, full body work out at the gym three days a week.  On the anti-inflammatory, plant-based diet, I’m amazed that I never have any aches or pains anymore.

In 2013, I completed the prestigious Certificate Program in Plant-Based Nutrition from eCornell and the T. Colin Campbell Foundation. I have also studied the writings of Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Dr. John McDougall, Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr. Michael Greger, and many more.

My journey over the past six years including being co-editor of Vegan Magazine has given me great insight into the benefits of a whole foods “plant strong” lifestyle so I can now help others come over to Team Vegan for a more empowered life!
